Graham’s has occupied its lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia since 1890. Visits are guided and need a reservation. There are two addresses, and it matters which you use: on foot it is Rua Rei Ramiro 514; by car, Rua do Agro 141.
What is on offer
Graham’s does not show its standard visit and tasting prices publicly, so we cannot compare them here. What it does publish is the top end, and that is where Graham’s stands apart from its neighbors:
- Visit, Tasting and Lunch (€140): a guided visit, a Port tasting and a set lunch at the lodge’s Vinum Restaurant. Book at least 48 hours ahead; vegan and children’s menus are available.
- A premium food and wine experience (€270), booked at least 72 hours ahead.
- Private Boardroom Experience (€250): six Symington family Ports with snacks. Graham’s 2007 Vintage, Dow’s 1994 Vintage, Warre’s 1985 Vintage, and the 20, 30 and 40 Year Old Tawny.
- Cellar Master’s Trilogy (€350, private room, limited availability): Graham’s Single Harvest Tawnies from 1997, 1974 and 1961.
The Boardroom tasting is the interesting one for anyone learning. Three Vintage Ports from three different houses and three decades, next to three ages of Tawny, is a compressed lesson in how bottle ageing and cask ageing differ. The Trilogy is for people who already know they love old Tawny.
When to go
From April 1 to October 31, visits and tastings run 10:00 to 17:30 and the shop stays open until 19:30. From November 1 to March 31, visits run 10:00 to 17:00 and tastings 11:00 to 17:30.
